[0.8.6m1] - About the replaced music
So, you probably heard the news: 50 tracks of the Eternum soundtrack had to be replaced by royalty free or AI generated alternatives due to licensing. I've listened in to a few; while some of the new tracks are not bad at all, some are a shadow of the song they're replacing. I'm sure a lot of you would like the option to get the old tracks back.
Of course a mod can easily accomplish that, but me uploading one here would be copyright infringement. So if you really want to obtain one you unfortunately have to make use of other parts of the internet. What I can tell you is that if you do find a mod that restores the old music tracks and this mod doesn't have any other features beyond that, it's very likely going to be compatible with my mods here. Also, a mod of that kind will keep working with all with future versions of Eternum as long as Caribdis doesn't restructure his assets, so no need to keep it updated. If you obtain it once you can save it and bring it out whenever you feel nostalgic.
Oh, and I've adapted my mod to 0.8.6 now and fixed an Android issue where Luna's space suit outfit appeared twice on the overview screen. If you have an older version of Eternum that you want to keep using for now, the Itch app for PC lets you downgrade my mod to earlier versions, though you can't do that via browser, sadly. If you're having trouble, contact me through Discord and I'll help you out manually.

I know this was posted almost 70 days ago, but I think that keeping the music restoration out of this mod is a good idea. It's better for the guys over on F95 to handle that stuff. Thanks for making this mod! It's really good, and helpful! I like it a lot.
Thank you! Maybe some madlad makes a special deal with some of the rights holders and we officially get some of the original music back! It wouldn't be that improbable given the popularity and vanilla-adjacence of Eternum, but that madlad won't be me.
What's funny about that is that, I actually had a dream where I met some of the creators of the more popular songs that got axed from Eternum, and I told them about what happened to the soundtrack; and I convinced them to give Caribdis their personal permission to put their music back in the game. Not permission from the corporate music providers that Caribdis uses, but the actual creator's personal permission. It's extraordinarily unlikely that that would ever happen, but it was a pretty cool dream, lol.
On an unrelated note, all the stuff that's happened with Eternum's soundtrack does make you wonder what will happen to the soundtracks from other AVNs when they also get big. For example, in My Bully is My Lover, which is the AVN I currently have my focus on, there's a scene that has the song "Like That" by Jane & The Boy, the same creator who made "Hostage," which was one of the first songs to get axed from Eternum. So, it's a question now if NiiChan is even allowed to have that song in the game. It makes you wonder how safe the soundtracks from other AVNs are. The only AVN I know that has a 100% safe soundtrack is Between Humanity, because I asked DebatingPanda himself whether or not Between Humanity was at risk of ending up like Eternum, and he told me he made sure all the music in his game was safe. But aside from Between Humanity, I don't know.
Overall, it's a darn shame what happened to Eternum's soundtrack, even all this time later. There are a lot of creators that really benefited from Eternum featuring their songs. Take Jane & The Boy for example. I didn't know about them until Eternum 0.8, because Caribdis put "Hostage" in the update. But after I discovered them, I found out I really liked their music, and started listening to them more. They gained a fan and some traction because of Eternum, and they aren't the only creator either. Steven Beddall got more popular because of "I Need You," Icarus because of "Drown Inside It," and probably the biggest example, Camille de la Cruz got more popular because of "Blah Blah Blah." These are the biggest examples, but there are so many more out there. A lot of creators benefited a lot from Eternum using their music, and their response was to tell Caribdis to remove their songs from the game. Or rather, that was the corporate music providers' response, to tell Caribdis to remove the music from the game. And I get it, you know. Ultimately, it's their music, and so they get the full say in what happens to it, and where it's used. Even still, it sucks. They should be thanking Caribdis, not punishing him.
And while you could argue that the Music Massacre of '25 brought the community together in a way it wasn't before, I still wish it didn't happen. That said, I am happy for Tateshiko, though. His channel got a lot more traction because the soundtrack restoration was placed on him and some other people, and I did gain a lot of respect for him for coming in clutch like he did. I'm happy for the guy, so I guess there's that. And, some of the new songs aren't so bad. Even still, I miss the old songs. I'll say once again, it's a good thing F95 exists, lol.
Oh my God, I am so sorry. That reply was so much longer than I thought it was. I guess I got carried away, because of how much I wanted to say. You don't have to read all that if you don't want to, I'm so sorry. I wrote a damn novel. ๐

Haha, no worries.
